چکیده

A method of truncating the large shell model basis is outlined. It relies on the order given by the unperturbed energies of the basis states and on the constancy of their spreading widths. Both quantities can be calculated by a simple averaging procedure. The method is tested in the sd shell where the JT dimensions are of the order of a few thousand. It proves to be very effective in the middle of the fp shell where JT dimensions of the order of a few times 10 are truncated to a few times 10 .

Modelling of Random Geometrical Imperfections and Reliability Calculations for Thin Cylindrical Shell Subjected to Lateral Pressure

It is well known that it is very difficult to manufacture perfect thin cylindrical shell. Initial geometrical imperfections existing in the shell structure is one of the main determining factor for load bearing capacity of thin cylindrical shell under uniform lateral pressure. As these imperfections are random, the strength of same size cylindrical shell will also random and a statistical metho...

Large-space shell-model calculations for light nuclei.

An effective two-body interaction is constructed from a new Reidlike NN potential for a large no-core space consisting of six major shells and is used to generate the shell-model properties for light nuclei from A=2 to 6. For practical reasons, the model space is partially truncated for A=6. Binding energies and other physical observables are calculated and they compare favorably with experimen...

Combinatorial nuclear level density by a Monte Carlo method.

We present a new combinatorial method for the calculation of the nuclear level density. It is based on a Monte Carlo technique, in order to avoid a direct counting procedure which is generally impracticable for high-A nuclei. The Monte Carlo simulation, making use of the Metropolis sampling scheme, allows a computationally fast estimate of the level density for many fermion systems in large she...

v 2 2 6 A ug 1 99 4 Temperature dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy

We have studied the properties of A = 54 and A = 64 isobars at temperatures T ≤ 2 MeV via Monte Carlo shell model calculations with two different residual interactions. In accord with empirical indications, we find that the symmetry energy coefficient, bsym, is independent of temperature to within 0.6 MeV for T ≤ 1 MeV. This is in contrast to a recent suggestion of a 2.5 MeV increase of bsym fo...

Chaos and Order in the Shell Model Eigenvectors

The energies and wave functions of stationary many-body states are analyzed to look for the signatures of quantum chaos. Shell model calculations with the Wildenthal interaction are performed in the J − T scheme for 12 particles in the sd-shell. The local level statistics are in perfect agreement with the GOE predictions. The analysis of the amplitudes of the eigenvectors in the shell model bas...
